So, it's finally out. Blame the shitty Japanese raw cappers and stuff. Let this be the last season of Nanoha, oh God. Will we be seeing Magical Gun Girl Subaru & Teana next? ;_; It never ends. As a note, this is (one of our) first release(s) in .mp4 format FOR SSSSSSSSSSHQ QUALITY (or not). The real reason for it is because we didn't want 233 MB encodes. Mp4 would have the same quality at a lower file size, so, that's the reason pretty much. Kanna will also have another gift for you leeching whores later too once I finish TLing some shit. Guess you'll just have to look forward to that for now. There'll be some wait for episode 2 as well while we wait to get a decent raw. Tschüß. (That's German for Bye by the way. YES. IT HAS RETURNED >:O FU VELKA-TYPE WEAPONS)

Thank you Triad for subbing this! a problem though I am having terrible playback issues. I have all codecs up to date and the latest players and it keeps just ending in middle and a really good machine to play HQ stuff and haven't had this problem with anything else like hayate's HQ version which is really huge. Suggestions? Because this pretty much sucks.

What codecs do you have?

I'm running the april 6 build of ffdshow and it's been fine.

I also ran CoreAVC, and that made all my h264 content run at half framerate. Worse is the AIR blu-ray h264 encodes are all fucked up with coreavc.

By the way guys, ß isn't used at the end of words since the Rechtschreibreform in 1996; I think "tschüs" is the more common spelling now.

Luckily this doesn't affect PANZER GEIST!

Thanks for this release using an awesome looking raw, but I'm having a problem so far at about 1:14 or so when it crashes the player. I use MPC with codecs current as of about a week or so ago, but it also smoked WMP.

Not a gripe, just sharing my experience. Thanks again.

Thanks very much for the release! Though I can't say much for some people's bad language... if the extension "MP4" bothers you that much, then rename it with an "AVI" extension when you're done downloading it! It'll still work... like come on already.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

I'm surprised at the number of people who can't play h.264. I expected Triad's audiences to be on the mature side. But I guess that really has little to do with their technical knowledge/hardware capability. I for one wondered for quite a while why Triad hadn't jumped on the h.264 wagon since they're all about the quality. I was guessing that maybe they thought Xvid was mature and x264 wasn't. But maybe somewhere in their heart, they cared about normal folks' ability to play their fansubs. Despite Triad's repeated declaration that they don't care if we watch their sub or not, deep down inside, they really do. They are actually very kind people, and they won't release the same thing in two formats. In order to strive forward, it is necessary to cut it off and leave the old behind to embrace the new. My machine decodes h.264 with ease so I'm quite biased.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

You are correct, we really don't care. It plays fine for us, and the encoder was bitching at the shitty quality xvid produced, so we felt it was time to make the change. Releasing two different formats is a waste of resources for everyone, so if you can't play it, everyone's favorite speedsubbers would be a nice second choice for you.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

Times change, formats move on.

I don't really see why you'd want to archive something of LESSER quality than is getting to be standard in this day and age. XviD stuff is going to become increasingly more uncommon in the next few years as x264 continues to pick up steam. And it should: There's no reason to stick with a dated, aging format in this day and age except for legacy computers. If you want it just 'cause the first two seasons are in AVI, then you're being silly. That's like saying that if there's ever a season ten years down the road, it should be done with the same format as the original season for consistency's sake, no matter how much technology and quality have moved forward in the meantime.

Particularly when it's so damned easy to run stuff with CCCP, and someone mildly resourceful could transcode to their favorite format with virtualdub without much trouble.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

x264 is not where it is going now it sucks.
xvid is more stable and better and doesn't have like 3 different types of it.
and x264 doesn't have something really cool in its encoding options so it fails
also cccp sucks you should get rid of it avi is old but stable mp4 is unstable as shit so you shouldn't be talking like its a good thing also even if x264 produces better quality it just goes to show how shitty it is

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

I'm really surprised at all the complaints about using MP4/AVC/AAC. MP4 is a more versatile container than AVI, and using AVC video and AAC audio lets them give us better quality at the same filesize, or smaller files at the same quality (really these are the same thing, take your pick). Some informal testing shows that playback is only using about half of one core on my laptop (Core Duo 2.16GHz). This doesn't really seem like an unreasonable amount to me, but maybe I'm biased because I can watch it. :D

If you really need this in an easier codec, DGz has an XviD/AVI version, or you can transcode easily enough. I for one am glad to see an improvement in quality/space. Using softsubs could probably improve things even further, but I suppose that would lead to more whining, and possibly crappy re-releases if somebody decided to steal the subs and claim credit for them. :P

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

Hardsubs do not in any way have an impact on the decoding speed =) and Softsubs munch some extra CPU for rendering.

Not that i'd not like to have softsubs :P, i'd love it cos i can play it :D and doesn't cos encoding errors >_>. But too bad there's apperantly no really evil fullhd raw of nanoha ^_^.

Looking forward to the byosoku comments tho :P.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

Yes, but softsubs do have a positive effect on quality:filesize, because hardsubs increase image complexity, and in general can be expected to require more bits to encode than storing softsubs as text. Also, those of us with high-res displays like the nice sharp subs :D

I've seen a 1280x720 raw torrent for StrikerS ep02, but I've read elsewhere that the HD broadcasts for StrikerS are just upscales. Shame, the very little HD anime I've seen has looked very nice.

Re: Nanoha StrikerS 1 For Real

Quality/Filesize yeah, though i thought first you were talking about an improvement in deconding speed. I'm pro soft anyway.

Yeah, saw 720p to, but that's not FULL HD =), and sadly wasn't upscaled nicely enough to be worth it. Look at the "Moonlight Mile" Raws from da-raw for a nice impression^^. But as far as i know all HD Raws are upscales or at least were for quite some time anyway.
