Cox = Konkitsune = Kon (corn) + Kitsune (fox)

So yeah, it's not the most creative of combinations, but neither is the Japanese name. At least Cox is funny in so many different ways.

Also, when Cox "boings" around, he's apparently saying both "corn" and the Japanese word for "boing" at the same time. Oh, those witty Japanese.
