Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (26 episodes)
Licensed by Geneon

In the summer of 1983...
The cicadas cry during the day, and the higurashi cry in the evening. Their cries echo throughout Hinamizawa, welcoming the premature warmth of June.
Hinamizawa is a lonely village far away from the city.

Maebara Keiichi moved to this village, with a population of under 2,000, from the big city. Keiichi was intelligent and talkative, so he quickly made friends at school. His closest friend, Rena, who was very caring; their leader and class representative, Mion; a master of traps, Satoko; and the daughter of the Furude shrine with a mysterious air about her, Rika...

They thought those peaceful days would last forever.

Every June, there is a "Cotton Drifting" Festival. Even that day was to be a fun day. Until he discovers one of the many mysteries that revolve around Hinamizawa...
The tragedies that have repeatedly occurred over the past few years strike on the day of the festival. Every year, one person dies and another disappears. Keiichi steps into the darkness of the village out of curiosity. From that day on, Keiichi's surroundings begin to change little by little. Yes, everything...

The cries of the evening cicadas are all that remain unchanged in Hinamizawa, warning them of the coming of an early summer.

There's the "childhood friend" who's always quite daring when she goes on the attack of Ryouta, the "glasses chick" whose especially known for her long hair, the natural airhead who describes herself using a masculine pronoun, the mysterious "cool beauty" who still has her baby teeth, and the pure-hearted girl who's a gossip but quite worried about her breast size. Every girl has a little moe to her and occassionally shows their suspicious and mysterious adult charm. Akagi (26 episodes)

"You'll only survive if you die."
These were the words from the boy sitting on the sofa behind Nangou. The boy, of course, said this after seeing Nangou's hand.
"....You know how to play Mahjong?"
"No, not at all. But I can't sense any life in you. You don't have the will to win. You're only trying to survive.... You're just scared."
After hearing the boy's words, Nangou dealt a risky tile instead. As a result, he caused an upset. During the break, Nangou said to the boy,
"Can you play for me?"
"....?"
The boy said he did not know how to play... meaning, he is an amateur. Having a beginner play against the yakuza in this game of Mahjong would be reckless. But Nangou had a feeling. There was something this boy had...
"You've come close to death..."
Perhaps Nangou was able to sense that only because he was doing the same. The aura about this boy.
"You'd be able to make it through..."
Nangou entrusted his life to this boy. So he could win and keep living.
"Kid, what's your name?"
After a short pause, the boy answered.
"Akagi... Akagi Shigeru."

When mixed together, the result is a comical play on student life.
